Face your heart: resting vagally mediated Heart Rate Variability Shapes Social Attributions from facial appearance

چکیده

Abstract Phylogenetic theories suggest resting vagally mediated heart rate variability (vmHRV) as a biomarker for adaptive behavior in social encounters. Until now, no study has examined whether vmHRV can predict individual differences inferring personality traits and intentions from facial appearance. To test this hypothesis, was recorded 83 healthy individuals before they rated series of faces based on their first impression trustworthiness, dominance, typicality, familiarity, caring, attractiveness. We found an association between attributions Specifically, higher levels predicted scores ratings caring suggesting that strangers’ are more likely to be perceived safer. The present results (compared with lower vmHRV) associated the tendency minimize evaluative threat maximize affiliative cues at glance others’ faces.

Vagally mediated heart rate variability and heart rate entropy as predictors of treatment outcome in flight phobia.

In the present study a computer-assisted exposure-based treatment was applied to 54 flight phobics and the predictive role of vagally mediated heart rate (HR) variability (high frequency, 0.15-0.4 Hz band power) and heart rate entropy (HR time series sample entropy) on treatment outcome was investigated. Both physiological measures were taken under controlled breathing at 0.2 Hz and during expo...

Vagally mediated heart rate variability in headache patients--a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE Vagal nerve activity-indexed by heart rate variability (HRV)-has been linked to altered pain processing and inflammation, both of which may underpin headache disorders and lead to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Here we examined the evidence for differences in parasympathetic (vagal) activity indexed by time- and frequency-domain measures of HRV in patients with headache disorders compa...

Trait Self-Compassion Reflects Emotional Flexibility Through an Association with High Vagally Mediated Heart Rate Variability

Converging evidence shows a positive effect of self-compassion on self-reported well-being and mental health. However, few studies have examined the relation between self-compassion and psychophysiological measures. In the present study, we therefore examined the relation between trait self-compassion and vagally mediated heart rate variability (vmHRV) in 53 students (39 female, mean age = 23.6...

تغییرپذیری ضربان قلب Heart rate variability))

Abstract Many studies have been conducted on heart rate variability. Variability in the heart signal of two sequential beats is called heart rate variability (HRV). Short- and long- term variability reflects autonomic nervous system function, so that increased or decreased heart rate variability (HRV) is an indicator of human health. So, the analysis of these changes can predict sudden death...
